Naxos is a great island to explore and get active! Singles, couples and families alike can choose from a great list of activities to try on the island, other extreme and other more everyday. Cycling is a particularly popular one for all those categories. Many trails of different difficulty can be followed on the island, depending on the effort you’ll want to put into. Easy sea-side strides and trails in Chora can be enjoyed be a whole family, while a 16 km route to one of the more quiet beaches of the island will be greatly appreciated by couples. For the more extreme fans, there are several mountain trails to test your limits and challenge even the best prepared.
Naxos, just like all of the Cyclades, is quite prone to strong winds, with just a few -and popular- beaches being protected. This fact is what makes Naxos a perfect spot for Wind and Kite surfing. Beaches like Agia Anna and Mikri Vigla attract international visitors just to ride the waves, and host many outlets where one can get the necessary equipment. At the same outlets you’ll also be able to rent -or buy- diving suits and equipment to go scuba and explore the magical seabed of Naxos. With so many different beaches from all the geological phenomena that shaped the Aegean, the sea depths are an amazing world waiting to be discovered. One can also get a certification diploma as a scuba diver in one of the Diving training schools in Naxos! Finaly a more relaxing way to visit most beaches is sailing! You’ll be able to rent or simply join a tour, at most sailing offices on the port.
But Naxos is so much more than its beautiful beaches. There are great active ways to explore the island and learn more about its history and nature. The mountain villages and small settlements are perfect to mingle with the locals and find out more about its traditions and customs. Trekking on the many paths will get right where you want to be and give you the opportunity to understand better the conditions that shaped Naxian culture. A more relaxing way to see the island is Horse Riding. There are several horse riding centers all over Naxos where they will help you see a different aspect, by horseriding through the shores and the majestic scenery!
